The fauna of Bos t'Ename is recognized for its unusual diversity. The area is of paramount importance for its wide range of birds, mammals, insects, and reptiles. Among the many native species identified are four species of newt, of which the "crest-newt" is extremely rare.

The present forestry management plan in Bos t'Ename attempts to restore the wood's natural features, such as puddles, small ponds, and wetland areas, to provide species like the toad with ample breeding grounds.
