Throughout most of Bos t'Ename, human activities are prohibited so that natural processes of woodland growth and development can go on undisturbed.

In a specially designated section of the wood, the traditional "coppice-with-standards" forestry technique is applied. In this technique, the dense layer of coppice or small trees is cut back every twelve years and is then allowed to grow freely after each cut. Seeds of the few standing trees and surrounding plants and trees ensure that a wide range of species can grow and yield a very rich flora.

Traditional draught horses are less damaging to the soil than heavy machinery.
